Split expenses in 20 languages
kisir speaks 20 languages, and every one of them is free. It opens in your phone’s language, and you can switch to another in Settings at any time.
The 20 languages
Each language is written the way kisir lists it in Settings → Language. The last column is how many plural forms the app knows for it.
| Language | In English | Plural forms |
|---|---|---|
| English | English | 2 |
| Հայերեն | Armenian | 2 |
| Русский | Russian | 4 |
| Español | Spanish | 3 |
| Deutsch | German | 2 |

| Português | Portuguese (Brazil) | 3 |
| Italiano | Italian | 3 |
| Türkçe | Turkish | 2 |
| Polski | Polish | 4 |
| Українська | Ukrainian | 4 |
| Nederlands | Dutch | 2 |
| Indonesia | Indonesian | 1 |
| Čeština | Czech | 4 |
| Română | Romanian | 3 |
| Ελληνικά | Greek | 2 |

| 日本語 | Japanese | 1 |

| 简体中文 | Chinese (Simplified) | 1 |
Your phone’s language, or any other
The first time you open kisir, it uses your phone’s language if it is one of the 20, and English if it isn’t. To change it, open Settings → Language: the app switches at once, with no restart.
Everyone in a group can use a different language. What people type — group names, their own names, expense descriptions — is never translated and shows exactly as written, so a group named in Armenian reads the same on a phone set to Japanese.
Plurals done properly
Languages count differently. English has two forms: 1 person, 2 people. Russian, Ukrainian, Polish and Czech have more — in Russian it is 1 участник, 3 участника, 5 участников. Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Indonesian use one form for every number.
kisir carries the plural rule of each of its 20 languages, so “5 people” never comes out in the form meant for 3.
Armenian, from the first version
kisir is made in Yerevan, and Armenian has been in the app since version 1.0, together with English and Russian — it was not added later. The Armenian interface is set in an Armenian typeface, and the dram is a currency like any other.
This website is in Armenian too, including the guides and the help center.
145 currencies, in any language
The language and the money are separate. Each expense can be in any of 145 currencies; kisir fills in today’s mid-market rate, converts to the group’s currency, and lets you change the rate to what your bank charged.
A trip with drams, lari and euros in one group works the same whether your phone is in English, Russian or Korean.
Beyond the app
Notifications and the recovery emails are written in all 20 languages. This website and its free calculators speak the same 20; the guides and the help center are in English, Armenian and Russian.
How it compares
Other expense-splitting apps are translated into several languages too; their store listings show the current list, and we don’t quote their numbers here because we can’t keep them up to date. What we can say about kisir: all 20 languages are free, each follows its own plural rules, and Armenian is there from day one.
