A Splittr alternative, and how Splittr compares with kisir
Splittr is a well-rated expense-splitting app for trips and shared households, and it already works without registration and offline. If you want an alternative, the real differences are platforms, languages, extras such as recurring expenses, and what is free. kisir is a free option with no account, on iPhone and Android.
If you are searching for a Splittr alternative, it is probably not because the idea fails. Splittr and kisir are close in spirit: a group, a shared ledger, nobody forced to register, and a settle-up that cuts the number of payments. The differences are in the details, so here they are side by side.
Everything about Splittr below comes from its own App Store listing and website, read on the date at the top of this page. Apps change, so treat the listing as the final word.

What Splittr does well
Splittr has a strong track record: its App Store listing shows a 4.8 rating. It is a calm, focused app. A few things worth giving it credit for:
- No registration. You can start a group and invite friends without anyone creating an account.
- Flexible splits. Weights, percentages and amounts, and you can leave people out of an expense.
- Recurring expenses. Rent and subscriptions can be booked automatically, which suits a shared flat.
- Statistics and categories, including custom categories, if you like to see where the money goes.
- PDF and CSV export, and automatic backups.
- Currencies. All currencies, with a group base currency you can change.
Price: the part to check yourself
At the time of writing, Splittr’s US App Store listing says the app is free with in-app purchases, with monthly, yearly and lifetime options, says premium unlocks participation weights for each member, and says the app contains advertising. Prices and what sits behind them change often and differ by country, so look at the listing on your own store before deciding.
kisir is free: no ads, no subscription, unlimited groups and people. Export is free too.
Where kisir differs
- Armenian and Russian. kisir runs in 20 languages, among them Armenian and Russian. Splittr’s listing shows English and German. If your group speaks one of those languages, that alone may decide it.
- Adding someone who never installs anything. In kisir, you add them by name, and they are in every split. If they install it later they can claim that spot.
- Your own exchange rate. kisir fills in today’s central-bank or market mid rate and lets you change it to what your bank charged. The ledger shows both figures.
- History on every expense. Who changed what, old to new, and only the person who added an expense can edit or delete it.
- Notifications when someone adds an expense, records a payment, joins, settles, or changes an expense you are on.
- Closing itself. When every balance reaches zero, the group closes; adding an expense later asks to re-open it.
What kisir does not do
To judge the fit honestly: kisir doesn’t scan receipts, itemize a bill line by line, handle recurring expenses, connect to banks or cards, move money or send payment requests, set budgets, or run on the web. Payments happen however you normally pay each other, and kisir records them. If you need recurring rent or detailed statistics, Splittr covers that and kisir does not.
Which one fits
Splittr fits you if you want recurring expenses, categories and statistics, are happy with English or German, and don’t mind ads or paying a small amount to remove limits.
kisir fits you if you want a free app with no ads, need Armenian or Russian, have people in the group who won’t install anything, or want to set the exchange rate yourself.
Either works if it is a one-off trip or dinner and everyone just needs to join, log expenses and see the fewest payments at the end. Pick whichever your group can all get on their phones.
Switching without losing anything
Don’t move a group mid-trip. Two ledgers for one trip is the setup that causes arguments. Export the old group from Splittr as PDF or CSV for your records, settle it where it lives, and start the next trip, flat-share month or event in the new app.

Short answers
Is there a free alternative to Splittr?
kisir is free on iPhone and Android, with no ads, no subscription and unlimited groups and people. Splittr's App Store listing, at the time of writing, says the app is free with in-app purchases and contains advertising, so check its listing for what is free today.
Does Splittr need an account?
Splittr's App Store listing and website say registration is not required. kisir is the same in that respect: you pick a display name, and an email is optional and only restores your groups on a new phone.
Does Splittr work offline, and does kisir?
Both. Splittr's listing says it works offline and syncs with friends. kisir lets you add, edit and delete expenses without a connection and syncs them later.
Can I move my Splittr data into kisir?
There is no import. Splittr can export to PDF and CSV, so you can keep a record of the old group. The simplest path is to settle it where it is and start the next trip in the new app.
Which is better for a trip with friends abroad?
Both handle multiple currencies and fewest-payment settling, so the choice comes down to the details: platform, language, and whether you want extras such as recurring expenses or statistics. The table below lists them.
