A Kittysplit alternative: website or phone app, both with no account

Kittysplit and kisir share the best part: nobody has to register. The difference is the form. Kittysplit is a website (with phone apps too) that anyone can open from a link; kisir is a phone app built for offline use, with notifications and free multi-currency. Which fits depends on your group.

If you are searching for a Kittysplit alternative, you probably don’t dislike how it works. Kittysplit’s whole idea is that nobody has to register, and that is exactly why people like it. The question is usually narrower: do you want a website everyone opens from a link, or an app on your phone that keeps working without signal and tells you when something changes? This page compares the two plainly, so you can pick the one that fits.

Kittysplit vs kisir at a glance

The Kittysplit column comes from its own website and pricing page as of October 2026. Prices and limits change, so check them before you rely on them.

What Kittysplit does well

A website needs no install at all, and that is a real advantage. Send one link to a group chat and everyone can add what they paid from a laptop, a tablet or a phone, on iOS, Android or neither. For a one-off dinner with people who won’t install anything, that is hard to beat.

It is also generous in its free plan. According to its pricing page, you get unlimited expenses, several ways to split, and fewest-transfers settle-up, free forever for up to nine people. Its upgrade is a single payment per group rather than a subscription, and the one person who pays unlocks it for everyone. Its site lists eight interface languages, and the paid tier adds receipts and photos, per-category insights and a read-only link, none of which kisir has.

What kisir does differently

kisir is built as a phone app, and that shapes three things.

Offline. Expenses happen on mountain paths, ferries and in basements. In kisir you can add, edit and delete expenses with no connection and they sync later.

Notifications. Members are told when someone adds an expense, records a payment, joins, settles up, or changes an expense they are on. Nobody has to open the ledger to find out what changed.

Currencies without an upgrade. Each expense can be in any currency. kisir fills in today’s exchange rate and converts to the group’s currency; if your bank charged something different, you change the rate and the ledger shows both figures. For a trip across borders this is often the deciding feature, and in kisir it costs nothing.

It also has a history on every expense (who changed what, old to new), and only the person who added an expense can edit or delete it. When every balance reaches zero, the group closes itself.

What kisir does not do: it doesn’t scan receipts, itemize a bill line by line, handle recurring expenses, connect to banks or cards, move money, set budgets, or run on the web.

Who each one fits

Kittysplit fits a group that wants zero installation: a dinner among colleagues, a one-time event, people on laptops, a mixed crowd where someone will certainly refuse an app. It fits small, single-currency groups that want to stay on the free plan, and anyone who wants to attach receipt photos (on its paid tier).

kisir fits a trip or a flat where everyone has a phone, where signal is unreliable, where several currencies are involved, or where you want a ping when someone adds a cost. It fits groups larger than nine who don’t want to pay for the extra headcount, and people who like a ledger that is theirs to export.

Mixed groups. If most people have phones but one friend won’t install anything, either works: Kittysplit via its web link, kisir by adding that friend by name. The practical question is whether the person who keeps the ledger needs offline and notifications. If yes, an app. If everyone just wants a link, a website.

Moving between them

Don’t switch in the middle of a trip. Settle the old group where it lives, then start the next trip, month or event in the other app. Two ledgers for one trip is the setup that causes arguments, and kisir has no import.

If you are still deciding, try the free plan of whichever you pick with one real expense before the trip begins, and make sure everyone can open it. For the maths behind both apps’ settle-up, see our guide on settling up in the fewest transfers, and for the currency side, splitting expenses in multiple currencies.

Short answers

Is there an app like Kittysplit?

Yes. kisir is another expense splitter that needs no account: you pick a display name and join by link, QR code or six-character code. The main difference is that kisir is an iPhone and Android app, while Kittysplit works as a website as well.

Does kisir work in a browser like Kittysplit?

No. kisir runs only on iPhone and Android. If you want people to join from any device without installing anything, a website such as Kittysplit is the better fit.

Which is better for a trip abroad with several currencies?

kisir lets you enter each expense in any currency, fills in today's rate and lets you change it, at no cost. At the time of writing, Kittysplit's pricing page lists multiple currencies under its paid per-group upgrade, so check its current pricing for your group.

Can I use both?

You can, but keep one ledger per trip. Two apps for the same group is how totals stop matching. Pick the one everyone can join, and settle the old one before switching.

Want it on your phone, offline?

kisir is free on iPhone and Android: no account, no ads, unlimited groups and people, any currency per expense. Create a group and share the code.
