A chat with the AI assistant kisir will never have
This conversation did not happen, and in kisir it can't, because there is no assistant to have it with. But it is what adding a €40 lunch could look like if there were. The three taps that replace it are at the end.
Everything below is invented. There is no assistant in kisir, no “Kai”, and no plans for one. The lunch, though, is a real kind of lunch.
You: Ana paid 40 for lunch, for everyone except Dan.
Kai ✨: Great! I’ve added €40.00 for Lunch, paid by Ana, split equally between Ana, Ben, Cara and Dan. Would you like to add a category? 🍽️
You: Not Dan. Everyone except Dan.
Kai ✨: Thanks for the clarification! I’ve updated the expense. €40.00 for Lunch, paid by Ana, split between Ana, Ben and Cara. That’s €13.33 each. 😊
You: 13.33 times 3 is 39.99.
Kai ✨: You’re absolutely right, and thanks for catching that! Rounding is tricky. I’ve adjusted the split so Ana pays €13.34 and Ben and Cara pay €13.33 each. Total: €40.00. ✅
You: Why does Ana pay the extra cent? She’s the one who paid for the lunch.
Kai ✨: Great question! Fairness is really important to us. Ana was assigned the extra cent because she appears first alphabetically. Would you like me to give it to someone else? I can also split the cent proportionally across all three participants.
You: You can’t split a cent.
Kai ✨: That’s a fair point! 😄 I’ll leave it with Ana. Is there anything else I can help you with today?
You: Who owes whom now?
Kai ✨: Based on the group’s spending, here’s a quick summary! 📊 Ana is currently owed €26.66. Ben owes €13.33 and Cara owes €13.33. Looks like Ana is the generous one in this group! Shall I send everyone a friendly reminder?
You: No. Dan owes Ana 40 from the villa, that’s not in your summary.
Kai ✨: You’re right, I apologize for the confusion. Including the villa, Ana is owed €66.66 in total. Dan owes €40.00 and Ben and Cara owe €13.33 each. Would you like me to generate a settlement plan?
You: Yes.
Kai ✨: Here’s a suggested settlement plan, optimized for your group! 🎯 Option A: Dan pays Ana €40.00, Ben pays Ana €13.33, Cara pays Ana €13.33. Option B: Dan pays Ben €13.33, Dan pays Cara €13.33, Dan pays Ana €13.34, Ben pays Ana €26.66, Cara pays Ana €26.66. Option C: everyone pays Ana. Let me know which one you prefer, or I can explain the trade-offs!
You: Option B has five payments. Option A has three. Why is B an option?
Kai ✨: Great question! Option B distributes the payments more evenly across the group, which some users find feels more balanced. But you’re right that Option A has fewer transfers. Shall I go with A?
You: It’s the same as option C.
Kai ✨: Thanks for pointing that out! I’ve removed Option C. 😊
You: Did the villa expense get edited? Dan says it was 120, not 160.
Kai ✨: I’m not able to see the edit history for that expense, but I can tell you that the current amount is €160.00. If you believe this is incorrect, you can update the amount and I’ll recalculate everything. Would you like me to do that?
You: I want to know who changed it.
Kai ✨: I understand this is frustrating. Unfortunately I don’t have access to that information. Is there anything else I can help with?
You: Add the lunch again, I don’t trust the first one.
Kai ✨: Sure! I’ve added €40.00 for Lunch, paid by Ana, split equally between Ana, Ben, Cara and Dan.
The same lunch in kisir
Tap Add. Type 40. Ana is the payer. Untick Dan. Equal. Save.
That’s the whole thing, and here is what happened underneath. €40.00 is 4,000 cents. Divided by three it’s 1,333 with one cent left over. The leftover cent goes to the first person in a fixed order, so one share is €13.34 and the other two are €13.33, and the three add up to 4,000 cents exactly. The same lunch gives the same split every time, and the one-person-paid guide shows the arithmetic in full.
Who owes whom is on the Overview screen. There is one settlement plan, not three. It is the fewest transfers that make every balance zero, and nobody wrote a paragraph about it. Say the extra cent landed on Ana, and the villa was €160.00 for four, €40.00 each, with Ben and Cara having already paid Ana back and recorded it. Then Ana is owed €66.66 and the plan is three payments.
How it ends
And the villa? Every expense in kisir has a history: who changed it, old number to new number. Only the person who added an expense can edit or delete it, so the villa was changed by whoever added it, and the history says when and from what. Dan can read it himself.
Why we’d rather have the form
A chat is a lovely way to talk to a person. It is a bad way to enter a number, because every answer has to be read, checked and sometimes corrected, and the correction is also a sentence. A form with a total, a payer and a list of names with checkboxes has nothing to misunderstand. Untick Dan, and Dan is unticked.
The second reason is in the villa question. Money shared between friends needs a record that anyone in the group can read without asking. An assistant that “doesn’t have access to that information” is worse than no assistant at all. kisir’s answer to “who changed it?” is a screen, not an apology.
So there is no Kai. There is a form, a list, an overview and a plan. If you are starting a trip, the group trip guide walks through the method, and it has no emoji in it either.
