If you’re the one who organises every trip
Every group has one. You find the house, you book it, you pay the deposit, and six weeks later you are still collecting. This is for you: how to organise a group trip and stop being the group’s bank.
You are the organiser because you are good at it, and the group is grateful in the way groups are: they come, they have a great time, and they pay you back eventually. The cost to you is not the money, which arrives in the end. It is being the one who asks for it.
Why organisers end up as the bank
Because the booking happens months before the trip, and it is paid by one card: yours. By the time the trip comes, that deposit is old news to everyone but you. Then on the trip you pay again, because you have the booking confirmation, the car, the plan. By the end, the ledger exists only in your head, and asking for it feels like billing your friends.
Four changes
Log the booking the day you pay it. Not in your notes: in a list the group can see, with everyone on it. From that day each person has a number next to their name, and it is the list that says so, not you.
Make the list the group’s, not yours. Everyone can add to it. The friend who paid for the boat trip logs the boat trip. You stop being the only source of truth, which is also the only person who can be wrong.
Collect twice. Once after the booking, once after the trip. Nothing in between. “Send the deposit share by Friday” and “the trip is settled, your line is in the group” are two messages a year, not twenty.
Let the settlement be impersonal. At the end, the list shows who pays whom in the fewest transfers. Half of them will not be to you, which is the point: you are one line in a settlement, not the destination of every payment. The method is in the trip expense tracker for groups.
What to say in the chat
Before booking: “I’ll book the house, €1,200, that’s €200 each, in the group from today.” After the trip: “Everything is in the group, your line shows what to send and to whom.” That is the whole script. If someone has not paid in a week, the list still shows it; you did not have to.
When you really did pay for everything
Sometimes the trip is small and you paid all of it. Then the settlement is everyone paying you once; one person paid for everyone handles the odd cents. It is still better in a list than in your head, because it is visible, and visible debts get paid.
How we do it in kisir
You make the group when you book, drop the link in the chat, and everyone joins with a name; nobody creates an account, including the friend who refuses apps, who you add by name. The deposit goes in on day one with everyone on it. During the trip, anyone who pays adds it. At the end, the Overview shows each person their own transfers; you record yours as they arrive, and when every balance is zero the group closes. Next year, same group, same link, and you are still the organiser, but no longer the bank.
Stop being the bank
kisir makes the list public from the day you book: everyone sees their share, you record payments as they arrive, and nobody has to be asked. Free, no account.
